How to find Windws Vista product key

So, you're getting ready to restore your system. You got everything you need backed up, all your important files stored somewhere safe. You find your Windows Vista CD but can not locate your software's product key (CD key) serial number.

You know that you need to input this serial number during installation and need to find out what the number is on the system already installed. Well, good news. There is a way to find out what the product key of your windows is. This is of course assuming that your windows still runs and you still have access to it.

The activation serial number is located in the registry but can not be read because it is encrypted.
