This is a bit different from XP. Shortcut to your user folder where your documents, pictures and music is kept.

Shortcut to Documents. This is what was called My Documents in XP.

Pictures. Yes, this was stored in My Documents folder and now you have it on the start menu.

Search your computer. This has been improved in Windows Vista for faster searching.

Computer. Shortcut to what used to be called "My Computer". See your disk drives and hardware connected to your computer.

Network. Shortcut to your network. Manage access to computers and devices that are on your network.

Connect to. This is a new feature in Vista. Here you will find available wireless networks, dial-up and VPN connections that you can connect to.

Control Panel. This was under "settings" in xp, now it's right on your start menu.

Default Programs. Yet another new feature. This is where you control default programs for web browsing, email, playing music and control what opens what.
